Cathy's unique Linocut prints reflect her interest in the lives of the people and countryside of Northumberland. The originality of her work is derived from her love and talent for observational drawing and design. Her sketchbooks are very important to her and their use as a basis for her prints make for distinctive pieces that celebrate the rich history and culture of the North East. She has been commissioned to create prominent site-specific artworks, illustrated book covers and held several Artist Residencies. Currently she is working on a series of Tree prints to capture the importance of the natural environment for our mental health, especially after the turmoil of the last few years. Melanie Hopwood
ceramics
Garden Studio
Melanie’s exquisite ceramics range from weathered sculptures, open vessels, vases, platters, wall panels, tiles, and rockpool boulders imprinted with text and geographically inspired imagery. Her work is influenced by the weather-ravaged land, coastal and industrial landscapes of Northern Britain. Richly textured surfaces are created using layers of glazes and pigments and recycled glazes embedded into clay, and once fired in the kiln are reminiscent of geological layering and the erosive powers of weather and time. In contrast the jewellery pieces are unearthed, natural porcelain treasures to behold. Artworks are available to purchase from Melanie’s Garden Studio, galleries, retail outlets and heritage sites throughout the UK.
Jessica Kinnersley
textile artist & tutor
Paddock Studio
Jessica explores nostalgia and narratives, stitch by stitch, layer by layer. The award-winning "The Arch at Belsay" kit is a testament to Jessica's ingenuity, earning her the Belsay Design Challenge accolade, in partnership with the Rural Design Centre Innovation Project and English Heritage. Through her workshops and textile kits, Jessica shares her passion for the art of slow stitching, offering individuals a chance to connect with the present moment and find grounding in the creative process. Jessica's commissioned keepsakes are truly exceptional.
Mandy Pattullo
textile artist & tutor
Tyne Valley Studio
Mandy is described as an inspirational British Textile Artist. She refashions disintegrating patchwork, quilts and antique embroideries into stunning backdrops for evocative collages. Her intricate designs are brought to life through the use of traditional embroidery stitches and applique, which showcase the rich and complex histories embedded in each piece. In nearly all of her work she integrates discarded North Country quilts and leaves the ghost stitches of past makers. Her work is a contemporary take on folk art tradition and technique, seamlessly blending the old with the new. Mandy is well-published and exhibits both locally and nationally, and runs popular workshops at The Hearth and throughout the UK and France.
Jill Stewart
metal clocks & jewellery
Hadrian Studio
Jill Stewart is a nationally known jeweller and metal artist. She uniquely combines sterling silver with etched copper, brass, and heat-treated titanium and each piece’s unique colour is formed by the action of heating the metal. Shapes are crafted by hand, filed with precision and skilfully soldered. Her signature style of using mixed metals, wonkiness, tool marks, lively colour and shape, are what make work truly distinctive. Her clocks are a harmonious blend of lyrical text and lively creatures that embody a sense of freedom and joy. Her jewellery designs are abstract interpretations of organic forms, each a wearable and delicate work of art. You can purchase her work online or in galleries throughout the UK, as well as at her Hadrian Studio.
