Huswifs and sewing rolls have been used by men and women for centuries to store things. Not just for sewing things but for paper items, for tools and many other objects. There are many contemporary examples too but I want to go back to the eighteenth and nineteenth century for inspiration and will instruct you how to make one traditionally.
Your huswif will be as beautiful and as complicated as you want to make it – it could incorporate patchwork and applique elements, embroidery and found stitching. Your huswif will be fully lined, the pockets will be lined and you will make your own binding to bind your pockets and roll.
This all takes time and the construction needs to be worked through in a disciplined way hence you will be taking two days to hopefully complete this process. I will provide the instruction and the inspiration but you MUST provide your own fabrics for this project – patchwork weight cottons are ideal. I will advise when you book.
